Journalist Shiori Ito’s film “Black Box Diaries”, which details her own sexual assault by a prominent Japanese reporter, has been nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film at the upcoming Oscars on March 3.

But it has come to be embroiled in a deepening debate over ethical and legal issues. Ito’s own former attorneys say that the documentary cannot be screened as it currently is within Japan’s borders given that it will cause “irreparable harm”. This is because, they allege, Ito has failed to protect her sources by using unauthorised security footage and audio without prior approval from those who can be identified in the film, and for using court-protected material.

ジャーナリストの伊藤詩織さんが、著名な日本人記者による自身の性的暴行を描いた映画『ブラックボックス・ダイアリー』が、3月3日に開催されるアカデミー賞の長編ドキュメンタリー映画賞にノミネートされた。

しかし、この映画は倫理的・法的問題をめぐる深まる議論に巻き込まれている。伊藤氏自身の元弁護士は、このドキュメンタリーは「回復不可能な損害」をもたらすため、日本国内では現在のままでは上映できないと述べている。これは、伊藤が、映画内で特定できる人物の事前の承認なしに無許可の監視カメラ映像や音声を使用し、裁判所の保護下にある素材を使用することで、情報源の保護を怠ったためだと主張している。

2025年2月20日、午前10時30分から「日本外国特派員協会」で行われた記者会見 ”Press Conference: Ethical concerns over Shiori Ito documentary”（伊藤詩織ドキュメンタリーに対する倫理的懸念）に参加した。

これは、映像ジャーナリスト・伊藤詩織氏が監督したドキュメンタリー「Black Box Diaries」に関わる重大な問題を提起するものだ。

この作品では、ホテル防犯映像の誓約に反する使用、捜査官の声や姿態映像の無許諾使用、私人映像の無許諾使用、さらに、無断で録音された伊藤氏と代理人弁護士（西廣陽子氏）との協議内容の無許可使用などが指摘されている。

これら問題を指摘し、2月20日午前に会見を行ったのが西廣陽子弁護士、角田由紀子弁護士、そして彼女らの代理人である佃克彦弁護士である。

なみに、伊藤詩織氏は同日20日の午後1時30分より、同じく日本外国特派員協会で記者会見を予定していた。
しかし、本人の体調不良のためキャンセルとなった。
本来であれば、極めて興味深い事案に触れることのできる一日となったはずで、若干不完全燃焼気味である。
